National Sauna Day with open bathhouses?
A National Sauna Day with national impact, achieved by bathhouses around Sweden keeping their saunas open and offering free sauna. The Swedish Sauna Academy urges all bathing facilities to celebrate the National Sauna Day with an open bathhouse on the second Saturday of June each year. The Academy, which works to spread good sauna culture, is based at Kukkolaforsen, and since its founding in 1988 the National Sauna Day has been celebrated in Kukkola on the second Saturday of June. "We have also always encouraged people across Sweden to enjoy sauna bathing a little extra on this day," says board member Hans Hägglund, also known as the Sauna Doctor. "We live in troubled times, when the fellowship and warmth of the sauna can give both strength and relief," says chairman Sven-Erik Bucht.
Mount Luppio
The Swedish Sauna Academy held a board meeting at the new venue on Mount Luppio, with excellent hospitality from the entrepreneur Johan Wäisänen. After the meeting the board tried the new sauna. It was even better than they had heard. The clever and handsome thing was that the rock had been incorporated into the building – the rock is visible inside the relaxation area. Inside the sauna there are large windows so you have plenty to look at, and the sauna heater is recessed, which means you don't get cold feet. A membership was awarded to Lapland View Lodge. Mount Luppio is worth a visit.
The sauna becomes cultural heritage
Unesco has designated sauna bathing as world cultural heritage. "It is a recognition of sauna culture," says Sven-Erik Bucht, chairman of the Swedish Sauna Academy.
Board meeting at Filipsborg
On 12 October 2018 the Swedish Sauna Academy held its first board meeting after the successful XVII International Sauna Congress. The venue was Filipsborg manor in Kalix, where the owner Örjan Pekka gave a fine account of Filipsborg's history from the 19th century to today.
