Sauna Day 2020
The 23rd National Sauna Day 2020. When this was written we didn't quite know how things would turn out – it depended on the spread of infection. We followed the Public Health Agency's advice and recommendations.
Friday 13 August at 17:00 there is a trip to Sven-Erik Bucht's fine smoke sauna in Karungi. Price SEK 400/person; transport, sauna and refreshments. Max 15 participants. Sunday 15 August at 13:00 an excursion to one of Sweden's oldest smoke saunas in Matkakoski. Then grilled whitefish, netting in the rapids, a guided tour and sauna at Kukkolaforsen. Price SEK 400/person. Max 15 participants. Programme Saturday 14 August at Kukkolaforsen: 13:00 a quiz walk with a sauna theme (start at reception); 14:00 seminars, the new sauna leaflet is presented, Jens Linder talks about his book "Bastu" and Ulrica Nordström about her book "Nordiska bad", with the sauna contest running outdoors in parallel and prizes awarded in the evening; 16:30 a lesson in binding a leafy whisk, with the chance to try Lithuanian vihta use and traditions; 16:30 sauna bathing in at least 8 different saunas and hot tubs; 19:00 presentation of the evening's sauna buffet, a tasty dinner buffet laid out in the lodge and on the terrace by the shore of the roaring rapids, with musical entertainment in the evening; 20:00 more sauna and a dip in the Torne River. The seminar, sauna and dinner cost SEK 850/person. Accommodation is available in the campsite, cabins and hotels, at a special rate for the Sauna Academy.
