Sauna Festival
Welcome to the first Sauna Festival, 26–27 August 2022. The Swedish Sauna Academy is organising a seminar and a workshop where we create the "optimal sauna".
Together with various experts, sauna builders and sauna enthusiasts, we will create a document setting out criteria for a good sauna. We also work in smaller workshop groups where everyone has a say. We invite everyone who wants to take part in creating the optimal sauna. During the seminar we will meet Rimas from Lithuania, who talks about the "Modern Lithuanian Sauna", its construction, microclimate and stove. Hans Hägglund, our sauna doctor, talks about the health effects of sauna bathing. Hans Walloschke, our sauna architect, addresses architecture, design, ergonomics and soft values. Ulf Salomonsson takes us through the issues of ventilation and humidity/heat. Other topics we cover are material choices, construction, the sauna stove, freestanding saunas, indoor saunas, benches, lighting and safety. After the seminar there will of course be saunas of various kinds: smoke sauna, village sauna and more. We will also enjoy a "session of group whisking" with Biruté and her Lithuanian friends. Music with national fiddler Daniel Wikslund and Jonas Strandgård on guitar. Culture sauna with Nina Nu, sauna songs, sauna ukulele, folk pipes and accordion with Richard Wesemeyer. The local delicacy, freshly grilled whitefish, is served for dinner. The whole programme with seminar, sauna, dinner and entertainment costs SEK 950/person for one day.
